This is a bit of a test post to explain what I intend to do with this blog. It will be my first time ever blogging, so please bear with me if anything is silly or poorly written.
I plan to populate this blog with thoughts related to my interests, mainly nature and botany, but perhaps a bit of history and other culture-related stuff too. I suppose a lot of this may be classified as a travel blog, but through the eyes of a naturalist.
As of now, my main focus is to provide descriptions of reserves and bushwalking tracks. I work in conservation and I'm a pretty keen semi-amateur botanist (I suppose that's what I'd call myself), so I'm always IDing plants and thinking about ecology when I'm out on my walks. Google gives results for most reserves or tracks, but they rarely tell you much about the actual ecology or plant life of the area. To fill this gap, I have decided to try to take it upon myself to share the interesting features of my local reserves. I've recently been planning a trip to Japan and I keep searching for similar blog posts to try to find interesting places to go, so hopefully this type of blog appeals to others, not just me.
A certain aspect of this blog will involve following my journey in learning about the natural world. Although I studied ecology at university, I am mostly self-taught in the botany side of things. The natural world is so complicated that there is always more to learn. I think it will be fun to have somewhere to record what I notice in the environment, fun little species interactions and species that are new to me. I will likely mostly focus on plants, but I am interested in all aspects of the environment.
I'll try to keep things interesting, and not ramble on too much. My proper posts should be a bit more polished than this introductory post which took five minutes to write. I've always been a fan of finding obscure blogs with fascinating information, so hopefully I can contribute to that body of information! I decided to go with nostalgic old-style Blogspot theme because it reminds me of some of the blogs I like. Regarding the name, I was inspired by a random 18th century nature book: Gilpin's Forest Scenery, where a random dude rambles about nature and a forest he lived in.
